Job Description

The Business and Operations Manager is a member of the Strategy, Innovation & Operations team, working within OBU Global Medical’s Project Management Office. This role partners with the business to meet the Global Medical Affairs (GMA) financial stewardship objectives and works closely with partners from Finance, Medical Tumor Teams and the Evidence Generation Publications and Partnerships team. The position will apply specialist knowledge using AZ enterprise study budget and resource system systems to provide comprehensive view across OBU Medical budget.


This role will analyse and report out impacts to evidence generation activity timelines and costs, including implications and variance from baseline. This will include the integration and analysis of all project data from all systems and hubs. This role would be accountable for all systems support for Global OBU Medical activities.


Responsibilities

Acts as a point of contact between management and partners for all budget and system-related questions, within OBU, the Medical Network and broader AZ.


Develops reliable operational and financial forecasts for Medical Tumor Teams. Using a good understanding of the business model and financial drivers, challenges and influences the key cost drivers to improve value creation and to deliver a robust Medical Plan.


Responsible for Maintenance of Study Progression (flagging key achievements and budget changes).


Leads costs forecast planning for GMA studies using AZ enterprise study budget and resource systems. Provides expertise in the system for scenario planning, scheduling, and budget impact. Advises on best practice for accessing and interpreting AZ financial system data.


Leads Performance Planning & Control meetings with Global partners. Highlights sensitivities & risks and delivers timely, accurate and granular reporting and commentary of global performance, linking business drivers to actual spend and forecast.


Understands financial planning systems and processes, able to coordinate project- and study-level budget estimates, handle actual vs. plan.


Responsible for collaboration with relevant OBU partners and Project Leaders in identifying and disseminating cross-project lessons from review of AZ enterprise study budget and resource system data at the start, during, or following study closure.


Leads all aspects of compliance and quality of the budget-related data for clinical studies and activities and ensures that activity durations and budget forecasts are consistent with study delivery targets, completion of landmark dates etc.


Actively maintains an up-to-date understanding of all developments which may affect the operations and policies within the level of expertise, and proactively advises customers of all relevant matters to achieve business requirements and objectives.


Drives financial performance and business activity, delivers and communicates performance and business planning reports, advises senior management on key drivers, and informs the Planning process.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in relevant subject area


Ability to collaborate with colleagues at all career levels and in various geographies


Strong work ethics and high integrity standards


Project Management knowledge and experience


2-3 years’ experience from in the pharmaceutical industry or similar large multinational organization


Experience of effective working in a multi-cultural, matrixed environment


Experience in planning and project management


Experience working in a global setting, managing partners within different time zones


Delivery focus with an ability to be responsible for and manage multiple activities with short timelines


Interpersonal skills with an ability to display a variety of leadership styles dependent upon the situation


An excellent communicator; evidence of strong independence and innovative seeker of strategic solutions; forward-looking


Desirable skills


MBA or advanced degree in Business/Finance


Six Sigma Medical/Process Excellence and/or Project Management/PMP certification 


Depth of understanding of medical, scientific and/or commercial pharmaceutical marketplace of Oncology
